Reporting calculations

Reporting calculations are user-defined elements that can be deployed to the cube for reporting when a data model is processed.

These elements include:

  • Named Sets.

  • Calculated Members.

To deploy Reporting Calculations to a cube, select the Publish User Reporting Calculations check box under Reporting on the Model screen.

Named sets

Named sets are user-defined groups of members or measures from the Dimension Tree that can be reused in multiple analyses and other resources.

Named sets:

  • Allow users to create groups of members that do not otherwise exist in the cube.

  • May contain members from different dimensions.

  • Are dynamic.

For example, when a new member is added to a level in the cube that is included in the named set, the named set is automatically updated to include the new member.

Note

  • Custom sets can also be created within individual analyses by hovering over a placeholder or placeholder tab and clicking the Custom Set button.

  • Custom sets differ from named sets in that they can only be used within the analysis in which they are created. However, a custom set may be saved as a named set from the context menu that appears by right-clicking its placeholder tab.

Specify named set for review upon import

Designers can make import packages that are easy to adapt to different environments by creating named sets that refer to specific accounts and other members in the cube that are likely to change if used with a different cube. This way, a user importing the package into an environment with a different cube needs only to review and remap a small number of entries for all resources in the package to work.

Designers can make the remapping process easier by flagging named sets that need to be reviewed on import.

This action is performed using the Mark for review button on the HOME screen. During the import process, flagged resources in the import package are validated and listed for review.

Calculated members

A calculated member is a reusable formula whose value is calculated using other member values (e.g. by using a mathematical or logical operation). The member is dynamically calculated at the time of use.

Measures or dimensions can be used in the member's formula. Mathematical operators may be inserted using the calculator keypad dialog box.

Note

Create calculated members by hovering over a placeholder and clicking the Create a custom formula button.

Specify a calculated member for review upon import

The calculated members are used instead of the cube members in analyses and other resources.

This way, a user importing the package into an environment with a different cube needs only to review and remap a small number of entries for all resources in the package to work.
