Model settings

Connection settings

  1. To connect to a Cube, enter the connection details for the Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) instance.

    1. Environment Type

      1. None - Select this option for Data Hub warehouse-only deployments.

      2. SSAS Multi-Dimensional - Select this option to connect the Model Server to a Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) instance.

    2. Server

      1. Enter the server name if the server hosting Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) is on the same network as Data Hub. Otherwise, a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or a NetBIOS name is required.

    3. Login Type

      1. Specify one of the following authentication methods:

        1. Application pool - Allows Data Hub to connect to the SSAS using an application pool service account (if configured). For information on application pools.

        2. Specified - Enter an authorized user name (including domain) and corresponding password for connecting to the SSAS.

    4. Enable cube security

      1. Select Enable cube security to allow Data Hub to execute the query as the logged-in user through SSAS query impersonation. The specified user credentials must still be authorized as a system administrator in the SSAS server (so that they can impersonate the Data Hub user). This ensures that security is applied to queries.

        Note

If the model server is used for Publication Rules or emails, cube security is required.

  2. Click Test Connection to verify the connection settings. A checkmark should appear adjacent to the button.

    Note

If the connection fails, a red exclamation point will appear. Hover over the exclamation point to see the error information provided to assist with troubleshooting the connection issue.

  3. Save the Model Server.

Options

Prior to modifying Cube Options:

  1. Complete Cube Connection settings section.

  2. Select Test Connection to populate Cube Options. This section allows Cube-related options to be modified for this Model Server.

    1. Storage Engine - (Read-only field) If Cube Connection is created successfully, this field will contain the term Multidimensional.

    2. Default Database - Select the Warehouse database to be used by default when the cube server is used to create a resource. Regardless of the default database selection, you can change the selected database when creating a resource. By default, the first alphabetically listed database in the cube is selected.

    3. Cache Query - When enabled, queries to the SSAS server are cached in memory, improving query response times.

      Important

Caching must be disabled for all cubes with dynamic security. Otherwise, false results may be returned. If you are in doubt about your cube's security configuration, you should disable this setting

    4. Query Timeout (seconds) - Specify the amount of time that Data Hub will wait for the model server to respond. The default setting is 60 seconds. Increase this value if your SSAS server is performing slowly.

    5. Show Hidden Cube Objects - Force Data Hub to display all cube objects, including measures created from pipeline columns that have been explicitly hidden.

  3. Save the Model Server.
